Frequently asked questions

Yes! An intermediate level means you’ve achieved a degree of confidence in English. At a B1 level, you can have simple conversations, make plans, and tell stories. At a B2 level, you can discuss your views in detail and live or work comfortably in an English-language environment. Of course, there’s always more to learn, so if our intermediate English classes look easy for you, try our advanced English classes and check our English learning resources for tips on improving your English level.
What are levels B1-B2 in IELTS? B1 and B2 are the third and fourth of six language levels on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or CEFR. The CEFR is an international guideline to measure language skills, using a scale from A1 (beginners) to C2 (language masters). According to the IELTS website, B1 corresponds to IELTS scores from 4-5, and B2 corresponds to scores 5.5-6.5.
B1 students are getting confident using English in real-world situations. They can easily make requests in shops and restaurants, for example. They can have simple conversations, but forming sentences may still feel slow and difficult. They can understand English TV shows with English subtitles, follow the news in English, and write simple texts about familiar topics. B2 students have basic English fluency. They’re confident and in control when speaking, writing, listening and reading in English. They can live, work or study in an English-speaking environment and have comfortable interactions with others. They can usually understand native speakers, and can discuss their opinions in some detail. Learn more about all the language levels in our detailed guide.
